Packers Blog
For many years (since the time the church started in in 1989,
in fact) Danescourt Christian Fellowship has supported the
work of Mike and Alison Packer in France.
Mike and Alison are
both originally from Bath, although Alison studied in Cardiff,
which is how we came to know them.
Originally they worked as missionaries in Marseille, but
then moved to Château-Gontier, which is about 30km from
Laval, the capital of the Mayenne department, in northern
France, where they have lived for many years.
An important part of Mike and Alison's work is to meet and
work alongside people, to develop trust and good relations.
They involve themselves in the life of the town, joining various
associations and clubs, for example, helping out in local
retirement homes, with local charities, English workshops
and clubs, etc.
Mike and Alison organise special events where they share
the gospel and talk about what God has done in their lives.
This includes events such as discussion evenings based on
contemporary films, Christmas Celebrations, Bible Exhibitions,
etc.
They have distributed tracts and gospel calendars in the
town and the surrounding villages.
Friendships have developed and they have been able to invite
many to the various events they have organised, both in Château-Gontier
and in the church at Laval. New people have come along, who
enjoy participating in these events. They have also had the
opportunity of sharing their faith with some of these friends
on a more personal, one to one level.
